How High-Growth Marketing Teams Secure More Resources

75.4% of marketing teams face higher pipeline or revenue targets, yet only 43% received a budget increase. If your team is expected to close that gap, you need a stronger operating playbook.

On September 17, Krithika Shankarraman, the first marketing hire at Stripe and OpenAI, joins AirOps CMO Christy Roach to unpack findings from 300+ marketing leaders.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Strengthen budget and headcount requests by tying investment to business growth
  • Push back when expectations exceed resources while protecting work that moves pipeline
  • Design a smaller, senior team with clearer ownership and greater leverage

Krithika built both marketing functions from the ground up. Christy has held leadership roles at AssemblyAI, Airtable, Asana, and Gusto

You’ll leave knowing where to invest and how to make a stronger case for the people and budget needed to hit your targets.

🏷️ The AI-Generated product shot you ran last week may now need a label

The EU AI Act's Article 50 enforcement deadline passed in August, and it changes what "AI-generated content" means from a marketing choice into a compliance question for any brand selling into or advertising toward the EU.

Undisclosed AI-generated content now carries penalties up to €15 million or 3% of global turnover, whichever is higher. That threshold applies to marketing assets most teams don't think of as regulated: an AI-generated product image, a synthetic voiceover, a generated background in an otherwise real photo.

Most teams using generative tools in production adopted them for speed and cost, not with a compliance framework attached, and the assets already live across ad accounts, product pages, and social content were built before this deadline existed.

That's not a hypothetical exposure. It's an existing content library that may already need a labeling pass nobody has scheduled.

Inventory which of your live assets are actually AI-generated

Start with a plain audit, not a legal one: pull every active product image, video, and audio asset currently running in EU-facing campaigns or listings and flag which ones used generative tools anywhere in production, including partial use like background generation or upscaling.

Most teams underestimate this number, since generative features are now default options inside editing tools creators and designers use without necessarily flagging that a given asset crossed the disclosure threshold.

Build disclosure into the production step, not a retroactive cleanup

Retrofitting disclosure onto an existing library is slower and more error-prone than building the check into new production from here forward.

Tracking which of your assets are traceable and disclosed, alongside how your brand is currently being cited across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google AI Mode, is what Semrush's AI Visibility Toolkit is built to surface in one pass.

Add a single required field to your asset-creation workflow: did this asset use generative AI, and if so, where. Answering that at creation time is a five-second step. Reconstructing the answer for an asset made eight months ago, after someone who made it may have left the team, is considerably harder.

Treat verified, disclosed content as a trust signal, not just a compliance box

There's a second-order benefit to getting ahead of this beyond avoiding a fine.

As AI-generated content becomes harder for anyone to reliably distinguish from real photography or footage, disclosed and traceable content becomes a differentiator, both for regulators and, increasingly, for the AI systems that weigh source credibility when citing or recommending a brand. You can try it free for 7 days.

The deadline already passed. The audit that should have preceded it usually hasn't happened yet.

📣 YouTube and Reddit are automating more of the ad process

YouTube is changing how affiliate products and branded content are handled, while Reddit is expanding its AI-powered Max campaigns to automate more campaign decisions for advertisers.

The Breakdown:

Reddit Max rolls out to everyone: Max campaigns now automate targeting, creative selection, placements and budget allocation using Reddit audience signals, with new API access, Smartly integration and asset groups.

Early campaigns show stronger performance: Reddit says Max advertisers in beta averaged 17% lower CPA and more than 27% additional conversions, while asset-level reporting helps identify which products and messages perform.

YouTube optimizes affiliate products locally: YouTube is testing automatically sourcing creator-tagged products from eligible local retailers, potentially improving availability and delivery times while increasing affiliate conversion opportunities.

Sponsored content gets tighter controls: YouTube is adding clearer disclosure labels, age and location restrictions, and automated detection that can apply branded-content labels when creators fail to disclose partnerships.

YouTube and Reddit are removing more manual decisions from advertising and commerce. YouTube is automating affiliate sourcing and compliance, while Reddit is using AI to optimize campaigns from targeting through budget allocation.

What Works:

Offer Hits First - The oversized “50% OFF” dominates the frame, creating immediate offer clarity and strong thumb-stop potential before shoppers even process the product category.

Proof Reduces Friction - “100,000+ 5-star reviews” adds heavy social proof beside the discount, helping offset skepticism and making the aggressive offer feel more credible rather than cheap.

CTA Stays Obvious - The bright green “Shop Now” button sharply contrasts against the purple palette, giving the creative strong CTA clarity while keeping the product jars visually dominant.

Pair a bold discount with one massive trust signal and a high-contrast CTA. That combination compresses value, credibility and action into one conversion-focused frame.
